In the front row is John Manaugh, Ralph Cox, and John Bruce Scott. Second row-"Skinny" Woods, John Lee, coach J. D. Gable, Phil Reagan and Bill Nighbert. Cox scored 10 and Manaugh had 7 in the championship game. Madison didn't win it's first sectional until 1933.
At the 2/29/2020 Southwestern Boys basketball game, Athletic Director Tom Scroggins revealed this banner to honor the 1922-23 Hanover High School Boys Sectional Basketball Champs. Before we were Rebels, some of us were Saluda Lions and others were Hanover Bulldogs! The two schools consolidated in 1959 to form Southwestern.
Hanover (Bulldogs) were the first team in Jefferson County to win a basketball sectional. Hanover won it in 1923 (100 years ago). They defeated Jeffersonville, 25 to 23, Vevay 29 to 15 and won the title over Scottsburg, 17 to 11. Go Bulldogs!
